G protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 (GRK5)
|
Definition: |
G protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 (GRK5) is a serine-threonine kinase that is constitutively associated with membranes and functions to phosphorylate agonist-activated receptors. GRK5 is widely expressed in mammalian tissues. GRK5-catalyzed receptor phosphorylation is a prerequisite for desensitization of second messenger signaling mediated by several seven transmembrane receptors. On the other hand, GRK5-mediated receptor phosphorylation is required for the b-arrestin-dependent extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation elicited by the angiotensin II type 1a receptor (AT1aR) and the vasopressin 2 receptor (V2R). |
