Definition: | The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor alpha 5 subunit is a members of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChRs) superfamily that mediate fast signal transmission at synapses. The nAChRs are thought to be (hetero)pentamers composed of homologous subunits. In dopaminergic neurons, the alpha 5 subunit form a heteropentamer with the alpha 4 (CHRNA4) and beta 2 (CHRNB2) subunit. |
